The major methanol and formaldehyde producer Metafrax has signed the agreement with Casale SA (Switzerland) for the joint project on building the ammonia, urea and melamine facility in Gubakhka (Perm territory). The new enterprise will be linked to methanol facility and its feedstock and energy flows. The considerable part of products is intended to be used onsite for manufacturing UFC and synthetic gums, as melamine feedstock.
The contractual facility cost is estimated at 338m EUR.
The project stipulates for the Swiss party to prepare the project documentation and carry out field supervision, and personnel training.
To recap, last summer the license agreement was signed. A 2-option feasibility study was conducted quite rapidly. This project is already approved by the State Expert Review Board. The permit obtaining is expected soon.
The capacity is expected at:
– 120 tpd of melamine;
– 900 tpd of ammonia;
– 1 255 tpd of urea.
Ammonia will be based on special gas-less technologies. The production will be based on purge gas left after methanol manufacture, which will ensure reducing emissions and increasing energy efficiency.
The completion of civil works is scheduled for 2021.
At present, basic design and detailed documentation, as well as public consultations, are accomplished.
Metafrax announced the intention for the facility construction 2 years ago. The precise contract price is 800m EUR. Loaned funds from 2 domestic banks are attracted for financing.
2 Russian general contractors were assigned for civil works execution, UIO and installation.
